Pointy Hats and Princess Crowns for 18" Dolls - PDF Sewing Pattern

When we think of dressing up in costumes, images of pointy hats abound, and nothing says “fairy tale princess” like a pointy cone-shaped hat with a veil attached.

The Pointy Hats pattern comes with four variations and is simple to make. Sewing directions are given for the witch hat and the hennin, but both could be similarly made without sewing and using glue instead. Your hat can be made from felt and accessorized with decorative trim, ribbon, tulle, etc. For felt that is less stiff, you may want to add iron-on interfacing.

Witch Hat
2 Sheets 9” x 12” Felt or 1 Sheet 12” x 18” Felt
7/8 Yard Double-Fold Bias Trim (1/4”) for Hat Brim
9” x 13” Iron on Interfacing (Heavy- Weight or Extra Firm) if needed for thin, flimsy felt 
Glue (I use Aleene’s Super Thick Tacky Glue)

Hennin
1 Sheet 9” x 12” Felt or Glitter Fabric Sheet or Fabric and Heavy-Duty or Extra Firm Interfacing
18” Square of Tulle Net or Chiffon 
12” Lengths of Ribbons
1/2 Yard Decorative Trim (Optional)
7 ½” - 8 ½” Elastic, 1/8” wide

Princess Crown
1 Sheet 9” x 12” Glitter Fabric Sheet or Colorful Card Stock
10” - 12” Elastic, 1/8” wide
Glue (I use Aleene’s Super Thick Tacky Glue)
